First Unit of El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant to Begin Operation in 2028
Dabaa Nuclear Project enters execution phase with installation of the cantilever truss supporting the reactor core catcher this January.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy confirmed that nuclear fuel will be introduced to the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant by 2027. The first reactor is scheduled to begin operation in 2028, with full capacity across all reactors expected by 2030.
The cantilever truss supporting the reactor core catcher was installed in the first nuclear unit of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant this January. The structure weighs 158.2 tonnes, stands 2.6 metres tall, and has a diameter of 11 metres. It consists of three cylindrical rings reinforced with thermal protection systems made of heat-resistant materials and covered in steel. The structure is designed to provide cooling water to the core catcher as part of the plant’s passive safety systems.
