Giza Sets EGP 15 Fare for Qute Cars Replacing Tuk-Tuks
Giza is launching a pilot scheme across several districts with licensed vehicles, regulated pricing, and a more organised transport model.
Giza Governorate has set the fare for the new Qute cars replacing tuk-tuks at EGP 15, according to Secretary-General Mostafa Abd El-Moneim. The fixed fare will apply to standard trips within each local zone, forming the basis of a more predictable and regulated system in areas previously served by tuk-tuks. The Qute — a compact, four-seat vehicle — will be licensed, insured, and permitted to operate on dual fuel. The governorate says the shift to Qute cars marks the start of a phased transition aimed at improving safety and bringing unregulated neighbourhood transport into a formal, monitored framework. The pilot rollout will assess whether the EGP 15 fare requires adjustments for longer routes or cross-zone trips, but officials emphasised that the fare will remain fixed and publicly displayed to prevent arbitrary pricing. Oversight committees will monitor the implementation during the trial phase before expanding the scheme across Giza.
