Global Food Security Summit to Be Hosted in Abu Dhabi For First Time
The summit will see international experts present on the causes to, and remedies for, world hunger and food insecurity.
The Global Food Security Summit will be hosted for the first time by Abu Dhabi. It will be held at the Abu Dhabi Exhibition Centre on November 26th and the 27th, as part of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week.
The summit will see experts present on the causes of world hunger, and offer innovative and cooperative ways to reduce it on a global scale. As many as 309 million people are facing chronic hunger in 72 countries, according to the World Food Program’s estimates.
In 2023, the UAE laid out plans to develop a comprehensive system to enable sustainable food production nationwide, using modern technology, as well as enhancing local production. This National Food Security Strategy was officially launched in September, with the goal of getting the UAE to rank first in the Global Food Security Index by 2051.
The UAE also opened an agricultural centre, the AgriFood Growth and Water Abundance Cluster, in order to strengthen food and water security in the Emirates and around the world in June 2024. The centre is led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
The AgriFood Growth and Water Abundance Cluster will provide a key platform for supporting local suppliers and exporters. It is projected to contribute approximately AED 90 billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP, as well as attract investment of up to AED 128 billion by 2045.
