Global Water Research Centre to Be Established in Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture will establish the International Water Research Centre created in partnership with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The centre will focus on applied research in areas such as water economics, water security, pollution control, advanced technologies and digital monitoring, in order to address global water challenges, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, and develop sustainable solutions to water scarcity and pollution.

Located at KAUST, the centre will collaborate with national and international research institutions, leveraging KAUST’s academic expertise and advanced facilities. It will focus on creating innovative solutions to water-related issues, supporting Saudi Arabia’s leadership in water research, and contributing to global water sustainability efforts. Key areas of research will include water management policies, pollution treatment technologies, and innovations in water production and conservation.

The centre is expected to support economic and social development by ensuring the sustainability of water resources for future generations, in line with the Kingdom’s broader environmental goals.
