Historic Diplomatic Maps & Treaties Restored for Foreign Ministry

A collection of historic diplomatic documents belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates has been restored and formally handed over following a multi-phase conservation project. The handover included 13 maps, 22 documents, and 43 historical agreements dating back to the Khedivial and Royal eras.

The restoration work was carried out by the National Library and Archives (Dar Al-Kutub) as part of the first and second phases of a project dedicated to preserving official state records. Culture Minister Ahmed Fouad Hano delivered the restored materials to Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the presence of Osama Talaat, Chairman of the National Library and Archives.

The ministers also toured the institution’s reading rooms, digitisation centre, and restoration laboratories to review the technical and technological methods used in conserving the documents. Hano described the preservation of historical records as a national responsibility, noting that such materials document the diplomatic and political trajectory of the state across decades.

He said restoration efforts rely on modern technologies to safeguard rare manuscripts and make them accessible to future generations, highlighting institutional cooperation in protecting cultural heritage.
