Jacobs Chosen to Lead Development of King Salman International Airport

American engineering services giant Jacobs has been selected by the King Salman International Airport Development Company to lead the design and construction of the King Salman International Airport in Riyadh. Under this agreement, Jacobs will validate the conceptual master plan, design the runways, and provide a range of advisory services for the airport.

Jacobs, along with architects Foster + Partners, previously won a competition to create the concept master plan for the new airport. Their design envisions the airport covering approximately 57 square kilometres, featuring six parallel runways, multiple terminals, and surrounding real estate development.

"This project supports the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ambition to fulfil the strategic objectives of Vision 2030, showcasing the Kingdom to the world and diversifying the economy into new areas such as tourism," Jacobs Senior Vice President Keith Lawson says. "We look forward to delivering this project with our local talent, partners, and global aviation team and are excited about the growth and positive change it will bring for decades to come."

The King Salman International Airport Development Company expects the airport to handle up to 100 million passengers annually by 2030. The project will emphasise low-carbon design, renewable energy use, and technological innovation, aiming for LEED Platinum certification and a distinctive travel experience for visitors.
