Logistics Zone to Be Established at Damietta Port

The Egyptian government is moving ahead with plans to establish a logistics zone at Damietta Port, announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El Wazir. The initiative is designed to accelerate cargo handling and customs clearance, thereby easing the way for exporters to access international markets. The zone will operate alongside the Damietta–Trieste ro-ro line, which connects refrigerated containers of agricultural produce from Damietta Port to Trieste, Italy, in as little as 34 hours. This route links with European rail networks, offering faster and more cost-efficient transport of Egyptian goods. The minister also inaugurated a new agricultural export facility measuring 11,000 m² with a EGP 300 million investment and an annual production capacity of 30,000 tonnes of processed fruits and vegetables. Located in the Gamasa Industrial Zone, the facility targets European markets and supports the broader goal of increasing the industrial sector’s GDP share from 14% to 20% by 2030.
