The Manpower Committee of the House of Representatives has approved amendments to legislation regulating foreign work permits.
The updated law increases the minimum work permit fee for foreign nationals in Egypt from EGP 5,000 to EGP 15,000, and raises the maximum fee from EGP 50,000 to EGP 150,000. Fees will be calculated at 10% of the contract value, with exemptions possible under certain conditions.
The revised legislation also outlines conditions for foreign employment in public, private and governmental sectors while mandating equal treatment for foreign workers, barring specific exemptions. Employers are required to notify authorities of unauthorized absences or when employment contracts end.
The amended law will now proceed for further discussion and final approval.
