Minister of Agriculture Reports 100% Self Sufficiency in Eggs & Fresh

Egypt achieved 100% self sufficiency in table eggs and fresh milk in 2025. The update was provided by Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, who pointed to record output levels across multiple animal production sectors during the same period.

Farouk added that poultry meat approached full coverage, reaching 97% self sufficiency, with domestic output at about 2.4 million tonnes. He said that stability in poultry production helped balance the market and ensure animal protein availability at suitable prices despite global challenges.

Egypt covered 93.5% of its domestic fish needs last year, with growth in the fisheries sector. Reduction in the import gap has been tied to expansion in aquaculture projects and the development of natural lakes. The ministry’s next phase focuses on sustaining these levels and closing remaining gaps in other sectors.
