Mostafa Asal & Hania El Hammamy Sweep at Optasia Squash Championship
Asal rises to world number one after a decisive victory, while El Hammamy secures her second title of the season.

Egyptian squash players Mostafa Asal and Hania El Hammamy showcased their dominance at the 2025 Optasia Squash Championship held at The Wimbledon Club in London.
In the men’s final, 22-year-old Mostafa Asal claimed a straight-sets victory (11-5, 11-4, 11-7) over New Zealand’s Paul Coll to secure his first Optasia title. With this win, Asal rose to the top of the PSA World Rankings, marking a career milestone and reinforcing his position among the sport’s elite.
On the women’s side, Hania El Hammamy added another trophy to her growing collection by defeating England’s Georgina Kennedy 3-1 (11-6, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6). The victory marks El Hammamy’s second title of the year and reaffirms her standing as one of the world’s top-ranked players.
The championship also featured intense semi-final matches. Asal overcame a two-game deficit to defeat Wales' Joel Makin in a grueling five-game encounter, while Coll edged out England's Mohamed ElShorbagy in another five-game thriller. In the women's semi-finals, El Hammamy ended the reign of defending champion Satomi Watanabe, and Kennedy secured her place in the final by defeating Egypt's Nada Abbas.
Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, congratulated both athletes following their victories, noting that their achievements reflect the strength of Egypt’s national squash programme.
