NEOM & Datavolt to Develop USD 5 Billion AI Powered Data Centre

NEOM has entered a deal with Saudi-based international data management company, Datavolt, to develop an AI powered data centre at Oxagon, NEOM’s hub for clean and advanced industries.

This agreement was initially announced during the LEAP Tech Conference and marks a step towards fulfilling the Kingdom’s vision of a sustainable, data-driven economy, powered by emerging technologies.

The development of the data centre will occur in stages. Stage one will be funded by an initial investment of USD 5 billion and is expected to be operational by 2028. According to conditions of the agreement, Oxagon will lease Datavolt the land for the development of the centre and will provide its operator with infrastructural support. The facility is planned to be 100% powered by renewable energy. It will utilise advanced cooling technologies and is designed to operate at net-zero

Aiming to address the challenges posed by traditional data centres, the project will integrate a wide range of computing densities and energy efficient architectures, and will have a total capacity of 1.5 gigawatts.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), data centres currently consume between 1% and 1.3% of global electricity, highlighting the need to transition to cleaner and more sustainable solutions.
