Oman’s New Tourist Walkway Lets You Stroll Between Springs & Forts

Tucked between palm groves and mountain springs in northern Oman, the town of Nakhal is getting a tourism glow-up—and it starts with a new three-kilometre walkway connecting the centuries-old Nakhal Fort with Ain Al Thawwarah, a beloved natural spring known for its lush surroundings and steaming sulphur pools.

Weaving through farmland, aflaj (ancient irrigation channels), and village landscapes, the stone-paved route is designed for slow, scenic wandering. Whether you're tracing water streams past old Omani farmhouses or pausing for a coffee beneath the trees, the walkway offers a more immersive way to explore this overlooked pocket of the South Al Batinah region.

Set to be built in phases, the project will also create opportunities for locals to set up cafés, eco-lodges, and shuttle services along the path. The goal? Less traffic, more footfall, and a sustainable way to open up Nakhal’s quiet charms to travellers seeking something more grounded.

It’s part nature trail, part cultural corridor—and a welcome new reason to keep Oman on your radar.
