NTRA Announces New Measures for Marketing & Sales Calls Regulation

The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt has rolled out a series of new regulatory and technical measures aimed at reducing the growing volume of nuisance and unsolicited calls received by mobile phone users. The move is part of a broader strategy to safeguard user privacy and reinforce confidence in the national telecom network.

The NTRA confirmed that these actions come in response to a rising number of public complaints regarding repeated promotional or random calls, which often come from unidentified or unregistered numbers. Telecom companies and value-added service providers will now be required to comply with updated operational protocols, including verification processes and consent mechanisms before engaging in promotional outreach.

The new framework includes enhanced oversight of how companies obtain user data and introduces penalties for those who violate the updated standards. The initiative also reflects Egypt’s growing alignment with global best practices in digital consumer protection and user data privacy.
