National Digital Platform Launched to Track Commodity Prices

The Ministry of Economy has introduced the National Digital Platform for Monitoring the Movement of Basic Commodity Prices, a system designed to track essential consumer goods and enforce pricing policies across the country. This initiative follows Council of Ministers Resolution No. 120 of 2022, which regulates price controls on nine key commodities, including cooking oil, eggs, dairy, rice, sugar, poultry, legumes, bread and wheat.

The platform enforces price limits on key goods, requiring ministry approval for increases, while other products follow market dynamics. Covering 90% of internal trade, it tracks prices in real time, curbing manipulation and alerting authorities to unauthorised hikes.

The system includes a mapping feature to pinpoint locations with pricing violations, enabling swift intervention, allowing for the tracking of market trends and faster reactions to imbalances that could impact consumers.

Beyond price monitoring, the ministry is also addressing economic concentration concerns. Since 2023, authorities have investigated cases in sectors like healthcare, real estate, and digital trade. Temporary exceptions to competition laws are under review for industries with limited suppliers. Efforts are ongoing to raise awareness among businesses and consumers about fair competition and market integrity.
