Ne’ma Expands Ramadan Food Rescue Campaign Nationwide

The UAE’s Ne’ma – National Food Loss and Waste Initiative is scaling up its ‘Valuing Our Roots’ campaign during Ramadan 2026, describing it as the largest nationwide food rescue operation undertaken in the country to date.
Operating across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Ain, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah, the campaign aims to redistribute more than 300,000 tonnes of surplus food and achieve a 50% increase in recovered food compared to 2025. According to Ne’ma, the initiative supports the UAE Food Security Strategy 2051 and the national commitment to halve food loss and waste by 2030.
More than 10,000 low-income families are expected to receive Family Iftar Boxes containing surplus food items collected from suppliers. Packing centres will be converted into community hubs, with multi-generational volunteering encouraged to raise awareness around responsible consumption.
The initiative is supported by a coalition of partners including the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the Khalifa Foundation, Silal, Takatof, the Majid Al Futtaim Group and more than 20 food retailers and distributors. Silal will contribute imperfect fresh produce to help reduce waste at the source.
More than 54 scheduled activities are planned, with volunteers from families and corporate partners packing and distributing Iftar Boxes at seven central hubs, including Expo City Dubai and Al Moatasem School in Abu Dhabi.
