New Cinema Committee Appointed Under Supreme Council of Culture

A new Cinema Committee has been formed under Egypt’s Supreme Council of Culture as part of broader restructuring efforts within the cultural body.

The committee will be chaired by Maha Abou Oaf, Dean of the ESLSCA School of Visual Arts and Creativity Management, and includes a group of filmmakers and industry professionals from across the Egyptian cinema sector.

Members include Salwa Aly, Hesham Ismail, Mohamed Hefzy, Karim El-Shennawy and Abdel Rahim Kamal, alongside Amr Arafa, Andrew Mohsen, Sarah Bissada, Khaled El Kammar and Safei Eldin Mahmoud.

The formation was selected by former Minister of Culture Ahmed Hanno and approved by current Minister Gihan Zaki. The committee also includes, by default, representatives of the Cinema Syndicate and the Academy of Arts, reflecting its institutional scope within Egypt’s film sector.

The appointments bring together figures from acting, directing, production, programming and music, as part of efforts to shape cultural policy and support the development of the cinema industry.
