New EGP 2 Note to Be Introduced FY2024/25

The Ministry of Finance plans to issue a new EGP 2 note in the upcoming 2024-2025 fiscal year to make it more convenient to carry and handle change. According to government sources, all procedures for issuing the new banknote have been finalised and are now awaiting final approval from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Cabinet.

In July 2022, Egypt issued a plastic EGP 10 note for the first time in its history, followed by an EGP 20 banknote. This move aimed to reduce the cost of printing currency, particularly for the most widely circulated denominations.
