New GEM Board of Trustees to Include Local & International Experts
The international members of the board include prominent figures such as UAE National Security Advisor Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has issued a presidential decree restructuring the board of trustees for the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), appointing a distinguished group of both international and Egyptian figures. The newly appointed board, which will serve a three-year term, is designed to oversee the final stages of the GEM's development and ensure its successful future operations.
The international members of the board include prominent figures such as UAE National Security Advisor Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Japanese Deputy Prime Minister Tarō Asō, Saudi Space Agency Chairman Prince Sultan bin Salman, and Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
On the Egyptian side, the board will include key figures such as the ministers of tourism, finance, and culture Mostafa El-Feki, and renowned archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, among others. Also joining the board are former Minister of Culture Dr. Farouk Hosny, former National Bank of Egypt Chairman Hisham Okasha, businessman Sir Mohamed Lotfy Mansour, TV host Sherif Amer, and Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the UN Office at Vienna/UNODC.
This restructuring of the GEM’s board comes as the museum continues its soft-opening phase, welcoming visitors to explore significant areas such as the Hanging Obelisk Plaza, the atrium with the monumental King Ramses II statue, and the Grand Staircase, showcasing some of Egypt’s most magnificent ancient artefacts.
