New Marine Bridges Cut Travel Time Between Reem Island & E12
New bridges link Al Reem Island to E12, reducing peak travel times by up to 60%.
Two new marine bridges have opened in Abu Dhabi, directly linking Al Reem Island to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Highway (E12), improving connectivity across the capital’s island districts.
The new links are designed to carry up to 7,200 vehicles per hour and are expected to reduce peak travel times by up to 60%, equivalent to around 15 minutes on key routes.
The project also improves access from Al Maryah Island, with motorists now able to reach E12 more directly. Authorities have advised drivers to use the new routes to ease congestion and shorten travel distances.
The bridges create multiple access options, including a 3.24-kilometre route via Al Zahiyah and a 4.5-kilometre route via Al Reem Island. They also provide direct highway access from key destinations on Al Maryah Island, including the Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi and the Rosewood Abu Dhabi.
Spanning a total of 1.5 kilometres with a surface area exceeding 25,000 square metres, the bridges are supported by 12 V-shaped piers designed to maintain marine navigation beneath the structures.
The AED 450 million project is part of wider efforts to improve movement between Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island and the E12 corridor, while reducing pressure on central routes such as Hamdan Bin Mohammed Street and Mina Road.
Additional works include a dedicated freight U-turn bridge linking Zayed Port with Saadiyat Island to support logistics and improve road s afety.
