New Saudi Law Requires Health Insurance for Domestic Workers

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has implemented a new policy requiring employers with more than four domestic workers to obtain compulsory health insurance for their employees, in order to expand healthcare access and strengthen the healthcare system. The Saudi Council of Health Insurance (CHI) and the Insurance Authority (IA) began enforcing this regulation on July 1st.

The policy is designed to achieve several key goals, chief among them the aim to achieve comprehensive healthcare for all beneficiaries, including domestic workers. This includes access to primary care, public health services, emergency care and hospitalization without co-pays. The policy also covers unlimited clinic visits for emergency cases, vaccinations and medical examinations.
