New UAE Facility Delivers 24/7 Clean Energy With Solar Integration
The new facility integrates solar power and storage for uninterrupted clean energy.
Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Masdar Chairman Dr. Sultan Al Jaber announced the launch of a new renewable energy facility during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2025. The facility combines 5.2 GW of solar power capacity with 19 GW hours of storage to deliver 1 GW of uninterrupted, baseload renewable energy. It was developed in collaboration with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company to address challenges related to renewable energy intermittency.
A new energy investment company, XRG, was also announced. The company will focus on gas, chemicals, low-carbon fuels, and energy infrastructure to meet global energy demands.
At ADSW 2025, the Zayed Sustainability Prize recognised advancements in clean water access, solar-powered education and sustainable farming solutions. The event brought together international stakeholders to address energy challenges and develop strategies for a low-carbon future.
Global energy demand is expected to rise significantly, from 9,000 GW today to over 15,000 GW by 2035, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence. Projections suggest demand could reach 35,000 GW by 2050, highlighting the need for diversified energy sources to ensure security and accessibility.
The UAE has achieved several milestones in energy and innovation, including the Barakah nuclear plant, large-scale solar and wind projects, and the establishment of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.
