This represents the fastest increase in tourism capacity in the past 15 years.
Over 14,000 rooms were opened or reopened in Egypt between December of 2022 and 2023, increasing the total hotel capacity by 7%.
This represents the fastest increase in tourism capacity in the past 15 years, with the total number of hotel rooms now standing at 220,044. The opening of these new rooms generated nearly 15,600 jobs, and 70,000 indirect job opportunities.
As the Egyptian government looks to attract 30 million annual tourists by 2028, the importance of increasing hotel capacity is a key part of the Egyptian National Tourism Development Strategy. The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities expects 25,000 new hotel rooms to be completed by the end of 2024.
