Prime Minister Approves Hiring of 72,000 Teachers to Address Shortage

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly approved the appointment of 72,000 teachers to strengthen its education system and address a long-standing teacher shortage. This move forms part of a broader strategy to tackle one of the most pressing challenges in the country’s education sector.

The government will recruit 12,000 teachers to fill past vacancies alongside 30,000 designated hires for 2024, bringing the total number of new teachers this year to 42,000. An additional 30,000 educators will be hired in the next fiscal year, completing the total of 72,000 appointments.

To ensure a transparent and efficient process, simultaneous announcements for all positions will be made, followed by rigorous tests and evaluations for candidates. The necessary funds for salaries have already been allocated, and the hiring process is expected to begin soon.

The effort aligns with a five-year plan launched in 2022, which aims to recruit 30,000 teachers annually to address the acute shortage. The Central Agency for Organization and Administration has identified a specific need for 11,114 assistant classroom teachers for primary school grades for the 2024/2025 academic year.
