Ptolemaic Statue Head Uncovered in Alexandria's Taposiris Magna

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the discovery of a marble statue head from the Ptolemaic period, uncovered by a French archaeological team at the site of a 7th-century AD house in Taposiris Magna, located 45 km west of Alexandria.

The statue stands about 38 cm tall, featuring a shaved head and intricate details. Its oversized proportions suggest it was once part of a larger figure, likely placed in a prominent public space. Initial examination of it indicates it represents an older man whose demeanour shows signs of illness. While the figure’s prominence is evident, early findings imply that he wasn’t necessarily a ruler, but rather a well-known individual of public standing.

The team is continuing research to identify the figure, and will soon start restoring and preserving the artifact.
