Rare Car Plate "DD 5" Sells for AED 35 Million at Charity Auction

Dubai’s elite car enthusiasts were in a bidding frenzy as rare number plates and luxury mobile numbers went under the hammer at the ‘Most Noble Number’ charity auction, raising a total of AED 83.6 million. The undisputed star of the night was plate number “DD 5”, which fetched AED 35 million at the event held at Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa. Organised in support of the Fathers’ Endowment campaign, launched during Ramadan by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the auction attracted high-profile bidders eager to secure exclusivity on the roads.

In total, five premium car plates brought in AED 75 million, including “DD 15” (sold for AED 9.2 million), “DD 12” (AED 12.8 million), and “DD 77” (AED 12.6 million). The biggest spender of the night was Muhammad BinGhatti, Chairman of Binghatti Holding, who secured “DD 5” and “DD 15”, contributing AED 44.2 million—more than half the total raised.

It wasn’t just cars that drew attention—20 luxury mobile numbers were also up for grabs, collectively generating AED 7.7 million. The priciest number of the night was du 0584444444, which sold for AED 1.7 million, while e& UAE 0565000000 followed closely at AED 1.6 million.

Dubai has long been a hub for record-breaking number plate sales, where ultra-rare digits double as status symbols. For those who missed out, the auction extended online through the Emirates Auction app.
