Red Sea Museum Launches Artisan Programme Linked to Regional Heritage

The Red Sea Museum has signed a cooperation agreement to support artisans and designers through a programme rooted in Red Sea heritage, with activities and products linked directly to the museum’s cultural mission. The agreement focuses on preserving traditional skills while encouraging contemporary interpretations of the region’s tangible and intangible culture.

The initiative will develop products inspired by Red Sea heritage to be offered through the museum’s gift shop, creating a direct platform for artisans and designers to present work shaped by local narratives. The programme also aligns with the Ministry of Culture’s Year of Handicrafts 2025 and supports the National Culture Strategy’s objectives to strengthen national identity and provide sustainable opportunities for artisans.

The partnership covers content development, the delivery of specialised workshops, and the selection of participating artists and craftspeople. A key focus will be the promotion of the “Made in the Red Sea” initiative, alongside hands-on workshops exploring traditional wood design inspired by the historic Bab Al Bunt building, which houses the Red Sea Museum.

Activities will centre on contemporary reinterpretations of architectural and decorative elements associated with Bab Al Bunt and the wider Red Sea coastal environment.
