SODIC Has Developed Egypt’s First Certified Green Business Park

SODIC's Eastown District New Cairo (EDNC) has received the EDGE Advanced Green Building Certification, making it Egypt's first certified green business park. This achievement highlights SODIC's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.

The EDGE certification, a globally recognised standard, measures resource efficiency and quantifies energy and water savings. It also opens up opportunities for financial benefits such as green bonds, loans, and grants. EDNC's adherence to EDGE Advanced Certification standards has qualified the project for a grant element from IFC under CIB's Green Bond program, further promoting sustainability and energy-efficient practices.

"We are thrilled to receive the EDGE Advanced Green Certification for EDNC. This certification comes in line with our sustainability-led corporate strategy, which guides our ESG commitments and steps towards carbon reduction and is a true testament to SODIC's leadership within the real estate sector," Ayman Amer, SODIC's General Manager, tells CairoScene.

EDNC's design and construction have been guided by sustainable principles, and as a result, the project has achieved an average 40% reduction in energy consumption, a 33% reduction in water usage, and a 22% reduction in embodied energy in materials.

“We’re delighted to see more businesses in Egypt seek EDGE certification, as these green buildings are more sustainable and contribute to reduced operating costs,” Cheick-Oumar Sylla, IFC Director for North Africa and Horn of Africa, tells CairoScene.

EDNC, situated within SODIC's Eastown development, offers 90,000 square metres of prime commercial and retail space. Its sustainable design fosters a healthier environment while minimising its carbon footprint, and solidifying SODIC's position as a sustainable market leader in Egypt's real estate sector.
