Samira Al Ali Becomes Dubai Police’s First Female Brigadier
After three decades of work in insurance and leadership, Samira Abdullah Al Ali has been promoted to Brigadier, the first woman in Dubai Police history to hold the rank.

Samira Abdullah Al Ali has become the first woman in Dubai Police history to be promoted to the rank of Brigadier, marking a milestone in the force’s 69-year history. The promotion, enacted under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, came as part of a wider round of officer advancements across the institution.
Al Ali, who currently heads the Insurance Department, has been with Dubai Police since 1994 and is widely credited with developing the force’s insurance operations into a fully operational sub-department by the year 2000. Over her 31-year career, she introduced international best practices, established benchmarking protocols, and led the launch of Dubai Police’s first five-year insurance contract for institutional assets.
Her entry into the force followed earlier experience in the private sector and a bachelor’s degree in insurance from UAE University. A newspaper advertisement and subsequent enrolment in a women’s preparatory course at the Dubai Police Academy led to her appointment, where she became the first woman to work at the General Department of Transport and Rescue, a unit that had previously been entirely male.
