Saudi AI Olympiad Winners Chosen for Oxford Scholars Program
The ten gold medalists, aged between 14 and 18, were selected from a group of originally 260,000 students.
Ten Saudi school students have been selected to take part in Oxford University’s prestigious Scholars Programme. These students are the gold medallists of the National Olympiad for Programming and Artificial Intelligence, organised by the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA).
The Olympiad, which took place over several months in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, began with 260,000 students from across the kingdom. Over several rounds, the number was whittled down to a final 298, with gold medals being awarded to 10 students aged between 14 and 18.
SDAIA’s initiative underscores its dedication to enhancing Saudi youth’s cognitive and practical skills in data and AI. The goal is to cultivate a new generation of leaders who can drive a data and AI-powered national economy, thereby strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position in this cutting-edge technological field and aligning with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
The students will now be heading to Oxford, one of the world’s most prestigious universities and a leading centre of AI research, for a two-week summer course led by university professors. The programme will focus on enhancing the group’s skills in programming and AI by drawing on the university’s state-of-the-art facilities.
It is hoped that their participation in the programme will bolster their chances for future admission to the university, helping create a new generation of Saudi pioneers in AI.
