UAE Approves AI Legislative Office to Modernise Legal System

The UAE Cabinet has approved the formation of a Legislative Intelligence Office to integrate artificial intelligence into the country’s legal framework. The move is intended to modernise legal processes by using AI to analyse laws, court rulings, and public service outcomes in real time.

The AI-driven office will create a comprehensive legislative map that consolidates federal and local laws alongside executive procedures and judicial decisions. By leveraging big data analytics, the system will assess how legal measures affect economic and social indicators, while generating proposed legislative updates in response to emerging needs.

The new office will also help ensure that laws remain adaptable, transparent, and centrally documented through a national AI-powered legal database.

This initiative builds on the UAE’s broader National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, launched in 2017, which aims to position the country as a global leader in AI applications across sectors including infrastructure, health, education, and governance. The UAE was the first country to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, signalling its commitment to embedding AI into long-term policy and institutional development.
