UAE & Saudi Rank Among World's Safest Countries to Walk Alone at Night

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the world’s top 10 safest countries to walk alone at night, according to Gallup’s latest Global Safety Report.

The survey, which interviewed over 145,000 adults across 144 countries, placed Singapore at number one, followed by Tajikistan, China, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Norway, Bahrain, and the UAE. This means five Gulf countries made it into the global top 10, outranking several European nations as well as the US.

In the UAE, over 90% of residents consistently report feeling safe walking alone at night, a figure that has remained stable year after year. Saudi Arabia has also steadily ranked high in perceptions of safety, reflecting the wider Gulf region’s emphasis on public order, security presence, and investment in urban infrastructure.

Globally, 73% of people say they feel safe walking alone at night; the highest level recorded since Gallup began tracking in 2006. At the other end of the scale, countries such as South Africa, Lesotho, and Liberia ranked among the least safe.
