Uber & Careem to Add SOS Button to Their Apps by April
The button will allow passengers to call for help in case of an emergency during a ride.
After calls for added safety on ride hailing applications, both Uber and Careem have announced that they will add an SOS button to their apps, which will allow passengers to call for help in case of an emergency during a ride. The new feature will be added in an update by April, according to an announcement from Ahmed Badawi, parliamentary head of the Communications and Information Technology Committee.
Attempts to improve the vetting systems in place for drivers on ride hailing apps have also been addressed with both companies currently examining parliamentary recommendations on various aspects of the applications, including access to the apps for would-be drivers, as well as their compliance with traffic laws.
