You Can Now Test Driverless Cars at Dubai Science Park
Baidu's Apollo Go will deploy the RT6, its latest-generation autonomous taxi, and plans to scale towards 1,000 vehicles by 2028 to provide citywide passenger pick-ups and drop-offs.
An autonomous vehicle operations and control centre just opened at Dubai Science Park, which means that people can soon experience being driven around in a driverless car within the Park.
The 2,000 square metre hub includes simulation and training facilities, an operations and maintenance unit, and a command and control centre. Baidu's Apollo Go will deploy the RT6, its latest-generation autonomous taxi, and plans to scale towards 1,000 vehicles by 2028 to provide citywide passenger pick-ups and drop-offs. This development is in line with Dubai's target for 25% of journeys to be made autonomously by 2030.
A 15 square kilometre testing zone for self-driving taxis, deliveries and other service vehicles is planned in Festival City and Dubai Creek Harbour later in 2026 to assess autonomous transport at a larger scale. In Abu Dhabi, testing is under way for a commercial driverless mobility service operated by Uber and WeRide, while the TXAI driverless taxis on Yas Island continue to operate.
