BIG Unveils Cascaded Residences for Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi
The Mandarin Oriental Residences fosters cultural richness with sweeping views of Saadiyat Island’s iconic museums.
A new residential complex is poised to rise on Saadiyat Island, the cultural jewel of Abu Dhabi. The Mandarin Oriental Residences, envisioned by renowned Danish architecture firm BIG, will offer breathtaking views of the upcoming Zayed National Museum, alongside vistas of the iconic domed Louvre and the striking Guggenheim of Abu Dhabi.
Scheduled for completion in 2028, the residence is split across two blocks, featuring stepped terraces and flying balconies for all 226 homes, as well as open plans and floor to ceiling windows inviting those sweeping views in.
At the base, a podium unfolds with expansive pools surrounded by lush greenery, creating a tranquil retreat that contrasts beautifully with the striking, five-winged towers of the sculptural museum. Currently under development by British studio Foster + Partners, Zayed National Museum’s dynamic form rises in the distance, enhancing the serene yet vibrant atmosphere of the entire space.
Inside, the residences reveal a harmonious design by New York-based Lillian Wu Studio. Each space is enriched with the warmth of earthy woods, the refined allure of veined natural marble, and the polished touch of sleek metal accents. These elements come together to create an atmosphere of grounded sophistication, seamlessly merging nature’s raw beauty with modern elegance.
Residents will have access to a range of amenities designed to complement a culturally enriched lifestyle. These include wellness spaces like a spa, gym and beauty bar, alongside areas for gathering and leisure, such as private dining rooms, a residents' lounge and game rooms. Adding to the cultural experience, a theatre and library provide spaces for artistic exploration and quiet reflection, grounding the residences in a lifestyle of both comfort and creativity.
Developed under the guidance of the UAE’s Aldar, the residences will be managed upon completion by the prestigious, award-winning hospitality group, Mandarin Oriental Hotels.
