Everything You Need to Know About Working Hours in Ramadan 2025

With the arrival of Ramadan 2025, various sectors in Egypt - from banks and metro services to shops and trains - have switched up their working hours to accommodate our new routines for the holy month. Here’s everything you need to know…

Shops, Restaurants, and Supermarkets

Retail businesses, including shops and malls, will close at 2:00 AM throughout Ramadan. Restaurants and cafés will continue to operate, with delivery and takeaway services available around the clock. Workshops located in residential areas must close by 10:00 PM, ensuring a quieter environment during the night. Essential services such as supermarkets, bakeries, and pharmacies remain exempt from these closing hours and will continue operating as usual.

Train Schedule Adjustments

Rail travel will also see several modifications. Train 1915, traveling from Cairo to Mansoura, will now depart at 3:20 PM and arrive at 5:40 PM. Train 3017 has been updated to include stops at Qweisna and Birkat al-Sabaa. Additionally, trains 586 and 587, running between Alexandria and Mansoura, along with Train 63 from Tanta to Mansoura, have revised schedules.

Further changes include an updated departure time for Train 925 from Cairo to Tanta, now leaving at 6:45 PM and reaching its destination at 8:10 PM. Express Train 297, running from Tanta to Mansoura, will now stop at Menia Shantna Ayash and Saft Turab. Passenger Train 268 from Mansoura to Tanta has been delayed to 1:25 PM. Meanwhile, Talgo Trains 2026 and 2027, operating between Cairo and Alexandria, are suspended until further notice.

Banking Hours

Banks will operate on reduced hours during Ramadan. Employees will begin work at 9:00 AM and finish at 2:00 PM. For customers, banking services will be available from 9:30 AM until 1:30 PM. Weekly closures on Fridays and Saturdays remain unchanged. ATMs will continue to provide uninterrupted service throughout the day and night.

Cairo Metro Schedule

Cairo’s metro system has extended its hours to accommodate increased demand during Ramadan. The first and second metro lines will start operating at 5:15 AM. The last train on the first line will depart at 12:15 AM, while the last train on the second line will leave at 12:40 AM. The final connecting trains between the first and second lines will run until 1:00 AM, while connections between the first and third lines will be available until 12:30 AM.

On the third line, first trains will begin at 5:15 AM from various stations. The final trains will depart between 12:02 AM and 12:26 AM, depending on the route. The last connections from key stations will take place between 12:40 AM and 12:45 AM. To accommodate Ramadan schedules, operating hours for the third metro line have been extended until 2:00 AM.
