Inside Alexandria’s One Hundred Year-Old Bar
Perhaps a weekend long detour to Alexandria can help you uncover this timeless Cap D’or bar.
Colloquially known as Sheikh Ali Bar, Alexandria’s Cap D’or is one of the oldest bars in the city. Founded in 1900, this is a 100 year-old embodiment of, perhaps, more vibrant times. Nestled amidst 4 Adib Street, this timeless bar harbours memories of 20th century summers and captures a lively atmosphere synonymous with a late night rendez-vous.
As you enter Cap D'or, you'll be transported to a bygone era of vintage charm and sophistication. The walls are adorned with sepia-toned photographs, antique posters, and wooden furnishings that lend a sense of elegance. As its interiors spill memories of past times, neon signs glimmer atop the bar’s high chairs as platefuls of freshly-made selection of hors d’oeuvres and shrimp cocktails.
The bar has remained largely unchanged over the years, with walls that continue to carry the stories told between them and the same ambiance and allure that captivated generations of locals and visitors before us.
