Mogamaa El-Tahrir to Transform Into Autograph Collection Hotel
The project is part of Egypt’s plan to turn Mogamaa El-Tahrir into a key attraction in tourism to future investors.
Mogamaa El-Tahrir, a historic landmark in Downtown Cairo, is being repurposed into an Autograph Collection Hotel, a luxury hotel brand within the Marriott International portfolio.
The hotel will offer 500 guestrooms and serviced apartments, several dining and entertainment facilities, and a rooftop pool with views of Tahrir Square, the Nile, and the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The project is in partnership between Marriott International and Cairo House, a consortium of global investors including Global Ventures Group, Oxford Capital Group, Al Otaiba Investmentsand Zoser Capital Partners. The project is part of The Sovereign Fund of Egypt’s (TSFE) Downtown Cairo revitalisation plan to turn the area around Mogamaa El-Tahrir into a key tourist attraction for future regional and global investors.
In 2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a decree cancelling the public benefit status of El Tahrir Square, and transferred the ownership of the buildings to the TSFE so they can be re-used. In 2021 Cairo House LLC signed a usufruct agreement with TSFE for the Mogamma, allowing them rights to the building. The group has been working in collaboration with TSFE to create a world class destination. They hope to start construction in the coming months.
