WATCH: Animals Might Soon Be Banned in Egyptian Circuses

A lawsuit by Egypt's Animal Protection Foundation (APF) aims to ban the use of animals in the circus, which they claim is in violation of the constitution and Islamic principles. The lawsuits calls on officials to protect animals against abuse and torture, accusing them of passive neglect.

While there hasn’t been an official ruling yet, the Administrative Court just referred the lawsuit through to the State Council for a detailed report.

The Animal Protection Foundation calls on circuses to rely on technology and human skills instead of animals. Their lawsuit also calls for the safety of circus trainers.

Back in April 2025, a trainer in Tanta lost his arm to a tiger. In 2015, famous circus owner Faten El-Helw survived a lion attack, unlike her husband, who was killed by a lion 11 years earlier.

Over 50 countries, like Italy, France and the UK, have already banned the use of wild animals in circuses.
