Digital ID Can Be Used for Hajj Travel Within Saudi Arabia
The digital ID, issued through Absher, is recognised for internal travel and removes the need to carry a passport.
Hajj pilgrims can now travel within Saudi Arabia using a digital visitor identification instead of carrying a physical passport during their stay.
The update was announced by the General Directorate of Passports, which confirmed that the digital ID is recognised as an official document for internal travel across the Kingdom.
Pilgrims can obtain the digital visitor ID through the Absher platform, developed by the Ministry of Interior.
The document serves as proof of identity for movement within the country throughout the duration of the Hajj period.
Officials said the measure is intended to facilitate mobility and reduce the need for pilgrims to carry passports, particularly during peak periods when large numbers of visitors are travelling between locations.
The digital ID is valid for domestic travel only and applies for the duration of a pilgrim’s stay in the Kingdom, where it functions as the primary identification document for internal use.
