Egypt’s Schools Will Enforce Staff Drug Tests & CCTV in Classes
The measures also require safety training, restrict maintenance access during school hours, and tighten monitoring procedures.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education has introduced new safety measures for schools, with a focus on private and international institutions, requiring expanded surveillance, stricter monitoring, and additional staff checks.
Under the directives, schools must upgrade closed-circuit television systems to ensure full coverage across all areas, including classrooms.
Monitoring of camera feeds must be carried out continuously throughout the school day by more than one staff member, with immediate reporting of any incidents that could affect student safety.
Private schools are also required to conduct periodic drug tests for all employees, including teachers, administrators, supervisors, drivers, and support staff, as well as new hires.
Compliance with these testing requirements will be a condition for issuing or renewing school licences. The measures include the integration of safety awareness topics into training plans across the academic year, supported by specialists.
These programmes are to cover students, staff, and parents, with a focus on physical safety and personal boundaries, alongside in-school campaigns addressing potential risks.
In addition, maintenance personnel are prohibited from being present on campus during school hours. Their work is restricted to after the end of the school day and during official holidays to limit contact with students.
