More University Admission Slots to Open in AI, Tech & Medicine

More university admission slots will be allocated to technology, artificial intelligence, science, engineering, medicine, nursing and other high-demand disciplines during the next academic year, while intake will be reduced in some humanities specialisations with weaker employment prospects.

Additional admission slots will be directed towards technological universities, computing and information faculties, artificial intelligence and data science, science and engineering, medicine and nursing, industrial education, agriculture, and tourism and hotel management. Fewer students will be admitted to humanities disciplines where labour market demand is considered more limited.

The wider plan also includes curriculum development and training for academic and administrative staff, with a focus on giving graduates practical skills that can support their transition into employment.

Konsowa also presented updates on the Future Skills Academy, a national initiative focused on preparing students for future jobs and the digital economy. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is preparing a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Programme covering training in artificial intelligence, data analysis, cybersecurity, cloud computing, entrepreneurship and green skills.

The first phase is expected to provide around 50,000 training licences for approximately 150,000 students and trainees. The programme is planned to expand gradually to around 1.5 million licences over three years.
