New Federal Authority to Oversee AI & Digital Government in the UAE
The body will unify data, AI and digital transformation efforts across federal entities.
A new federal authority has been established to oversee artificial intelligence, data and digital government across the UAE, bringing the country's digital transformation efforts under a single body.
Reporting directly to the Cabinet, the authority will be headed by Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications Omar Sultan Al Olama. Its responsibilities include aligning national priorities for a unified digital government system powered by agentic AI, as well as proposing policies, legislation and strategies to coordinate digital initiatives across federal and local entities.
The authority will also lead the national artificial intelligence strategy, manage government data and oversee the development of AI-powered national data platforms designed to support evidence-based decision-making. Other responsibilities include developing proactive digital services centred around individual needs, setting standards for AI and data governance, monitoring compliance across federal entities and supporting research and technical development.
The body will also work to expand international cooperation in artificial intelligence, data and digital government, while contributing to cybersecurity and government information security efforts.
The move follows plans to train 80,000 government employees in agentic AI as part of wider efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into day-to-day government operations and service delivery.
