Spousal Support Evaders Denied Government Services Starting April 20th
Government services are being restricted for individuals who fail to comply with court rulings.
The enforcement of a decision to suspend government services for individuals who fail to pay court-ordered alimony began on April 20th, 2026, according to the Ministry of Justice in Egypt.
The measure applies to individuals with final court rulings confirming refusal to pay alimony or outstanding dues, as part of efforts to enforce family court judgments. Under the decision, access to several public services will be suspended for non-payers.
These include building permits, ration cards, real estate registry notarisation services, electricity meter installation and the issuance of professional driving licences, among other services. Each primary court will allocate a dedicated office to receive complaints from women affected by non-payment.
These complaints may include spousal alimony, support for relatives, custody-related expenses and housing obligations.
The implementation follows a decision issued by Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif last month, without waiting for amendments to personal status legislation.
An inspection of implementation mechanisms and court readiness is scheduled at the North Cairo Court as part of the rollout across judicial and administrative bodies.
