Supply Chain Programme Identifies 150 Essential Goods in UAE
The initiative targets supply security through diversification, localisation and global partnerships.
A national programme to strengthen supply chain resilience has been launched in the United Arab Emirates, identifying more than 150 essential goods and outlining measures to secure their availability during global disruptions. The initiative maps alternative import sources for key commodities and includes plans to localise production where feasible, alongside exploring international investment opportunities in strategic sectors.
Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi said the programme is being implemented through coordination between government and private sector entities, with agreements expected to be developed with international partners to support supply continuity.
The framework was developed and tested during a period of regional disruption, factoring in rising logistics and insurance costs as well as supply chain interruptions linked to geopolitical tensions.
Implementation will include presenting the list of vital goods to investors and business leaders at Make it in the Emirates 2026, opening pathways for investment and technology transfer to support local manufacturing.
The programme aims to build a system capable of responding to shifts in global trade, with a focus on diversifying import sources, strengthening trade partnerships and maintaining access to essential goods under changing conditions.
