UAE Announces June 15th Holiday for Islamic New Year
Employees in both the public and private sectors will receive a day off to mark the start of Muharram.
Employees across the UAE's public and private sectors will receive a holiday on Monday, June 15th, 2026 to mark the Islamic New Year.
The holiday was confirmed by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation and applies to employees in both sectors.
The date marks the first day of Muharram, the opening month of the Islamic calendar and the start of the new Hijri year.
Unlike Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, the Islamic New Year is generally observed as a period of reflection rather than public celebration and is not typically marked by large-scale religious festivities.
