UAE Becomes Third Country to Approve MIEBO for Dry Eye Treatment

The Emirates Drug Establishment has approved MIEBO by Bausch + Lomb for the treatment of signs and symptoms associated with dry eye disease, making the UAE the third country globally to authorise the product.
MIEBO contains the active substance perfluorohexyloctane and is described as the first prescription eye drop designed to directly target tear evaporation, one of the leading causes of dry eye disease. By reducing evaporative tear loss, the treatment is intended to improve tear film stability and help relieve symptoms experienced by patients with the condition.
The approval was based on results from two clinical studies, GOBI and MOJAVE, which involved more than 1,200 patients. According to the reported findings, the studies demonstrated statistically significant improvements in both the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease during treatment periods.
Dry eye disease affects millions of people globally and can impact visual comfort and quality of life through irritation, instability in tear production, and other chronic symptoms.
