Artist Spotlight: MaMan
Sudanese artist MaMan explores Afrobeats and reggae in a powerful new chapter shaped by displacement and rebirth.

Sudanese artist MaMan has emerged from a three-year hiatus with a sound shaped by migration, resilience, and reinvention. After relocating from Khartoum to Cairo during the war in Sudan, the rapper-turned-singer has embraced a new direction, fusing Sudanese rhythms with Afrobeats, reggae, and percussion-heavy arrangements.
“The Sudanese language has a lot of expressions and a lot of melodies,” MaMan tells SceneNoise. “So, it needs a lot of percussion.” With a deeper focus on rhythm and groove, he adds, “I think I’m gravitating more towards Afrobeats.”
MaMan’s latest project is a reflection of personal and collective transformation. From early rap circles in Khartoum to the spiritual urgency of his recent work, his evolution is as much about survival as it is about sound.
We caught up with MaMan shortly after his album release party in Cairo to talk about his musical journey, his move from Sudan to Egypt, and the new sonic identity he’s carving out across borders.
