Nxdia Explores Gender Dysphoria on Post-Punk Single ‘Boy Clothes’

UK-based Egyptian-Sudanese artist Nxdia has recently unveiled their first release of 2025, a powerful biographic single titled ‘Boy Clothes’ where they unabashedly detail the chaos of their ongoing personal journey of gender dysphoria.

As a third-culture kid, fitting into traditional boxes has never been a natural mode for Nxdia. They built a community of their own in the UK’s alternative music scene with their relatable lyrics and shapeshifting alt-pop sound that’s a fluid blend of bold textures and intersections of languages.

A playful nod to Nxdia’s own form of gender expression and refusal of binaries, their latest single speaks of the freedom that comes with wearing ‘boy clothes’ through evocative lyricism that the singer-songwriter carries out with a charming tongue-in-cheek attitude effortlessly switching between English and Arabic. Tender-bold and poetic, the track’s hardcore production of gritty guitar riffs and garage-tinted arrangements mirrors the carefree energy and the privilege men have in our patriarchal society.

The track is accompanied by a striking music video, featuring a series of vignettes in which Nxdia hijacks the life of a male protagonist, alternating between wearing vintage ‘70s suits and tank tops capturing the punk angst feel of the music.
