Tamtam Finds Power in the Unknown in New Song 'You Don't Have to Know'

In her latest single, ‘You Don't Have to Know’,’ Saudi singer-songwriter, Tamtam, delivers a rallying cry to surrender to your heart and trust in the process, despite the many hurdles that you’re likely to face in life.

While she switches between English and Arabic throughout, her message is delivered with complete clarity:

“You don’t have to know where you’re going,” she sings in the chorus. “You don’t gotta know because no one really does. Just listen to your heart, what it’s saying guides you on the road.”

Wrapped up in the kind of edgy pop sounds that have become her trademark, the song is an anthem of empowerment, while the video gives further depth to her message. In it, two young girls drive the narrative, drifting around a pristine and classically decorated house (the kind you wouldn’t want two unruly kids to be running around in). Driven by a mixture of curiosity and hesitation, they approach an unidentifiable object with fear, only to find an unlikely surprise inside.  

The video is key to capturing that very particular type of tension between curiosity and the unknown, and could even be a reflection of Tamtam’s own pursuit of finding peace in the unpredictability of life.
