Egyptian Model Salma Yehya’s Alexandrian Summer Style Picks
In this edition of SELECTS, model Salma Yehya curates three outfits inspired by an Alexandria summer.
For Alexandria-born model Salma Yehya, her personal style is an ongoing process of self-discovery. Since stepping in front of the camera for her first shoot in 2015 fashion has been a means to reflect the many versions of herself, from embracing more feminine looks to exploring bold colors and functionality. Almost like a scrap book of all the different stages of her life.
Yehya gravitates towards pieces that feel comfy, yet not defined by one type of style, moving easily between oversized silhouettes, relaxed denim and feminine details. In this edition of SELECTS, Yehya curates three outfits inspired by an Alexandria summer, balancing ease, confidence, and versatility.
Q: As a model, you spend a lot of time stepping into different characters. How does that influence the way you approach your own personal style?
Modeling has helped me become more clear about who I am. Every shoot gives me the chance to explore a different style, personality, or version of myself, and through that process, I learn what truly feels like me and what doesn’t. Before modeling, I used to play it safe and wear what felt acceptable rather than what genuinely reflected me. But being exposed to different styles opened my eyes to things I never thought would suit me. In a way, stepping into different characters helped me come back to myself.
Q: What was your entry point into fashion, and was there a moment early on when you began to see style as part of how you express yourself beyond acting?
I’ve always been on a journey of self-discovery, not only through fashion but through every part of my life. I’ve been curious about who I am, what I love, and what feels true to me.
As I got older, I realized fashion was one of the most powerful ways to express myself. It became a language for the things I couldn’t always put into words. Fashion for me is a visual diary of who I was becoming in each chapter of my life. When I look back at old photos, I can almost see my personal growth through what I was wearing at the time.
Q: How would you describe your personal style in three words, and how has it changed as you’ve grown more confident in yourself and your career?
I would describe my style as expressive, effortless, and always evolving.
I’ve never really fit into one specific aesthetic, and honestly, I love that. Some days I’m drawn to feminine silhouettes and softer pieces, something I’ve embraced more recently as I’ve become more comfortable with that side of myself. Other days, you’ll find me in denim, an oversized hoodie, and sneakers. There’s also a bold side of me that loves experimenting and trying something unexpected.
Q: Are there certain pieces, silhouettes, or details you always return to, no matter the season or trend cycle, that feel most like you?
No matter how much my style evolves, I always find myself coming back to cool, effortless pieces. Oversized hoodies, denim, sneakers, and relaxed silhouettes have been part of my wardrobe for years and still feel the most like me.
Q: Tell me more about how you started modeling and entering the fashion world.
My first shoot was in 2015 when I was still very young and definitely not confident enough to imagine myself modeling. A photographer reached out to me about a casting for a project, and even though I was nervous, I decided to go.
I’ve always believed that growth happens when you do things despite fear, so I showed up anyway, and I was chosen. After that, the same photographer kept reaching out for more shoots, and that’s when I created a public account and the journey began. Looking back, modeling became part of my self-discovery journey. It helped shape the woman I am today just as much as it shaped my career.
